In 2005 due to ongoing and worsening health problems we started looking at what we were putting in our body. After totally revamping our eating habits we begin to look at what we were taking in through our skin. I already knew the skin was the largest organ in the human body. However this took on and entirely new meaning when I was put on a narcotic 100 times stronger than morphine that was administered through a patch on my skin.
I started researching the internet and reading labels, and more labels. I found out some of those crazy long chemical names were just safe natural substances. I also found out some of the much simpler names could be deadly. I learned that the saying “if you can’t pronounce it you shouldn’t put it on your body” was simply wrong. Cosmetics are required by law to use a certain list of names for things and many great things have crazy names, I have to wonder if that is just not a way to keep us from knowing what’s in the products we use. On our labels you will find not only the INCL name but also the common name. You will also find ALL the ingredients listed, we don’t hide ingredients behind the trade secrets & GRAS rulings of the FDA. When we list fragrance or parfum you will also see the ingredients in it. (ok I digress getting off my soapbox now)
We started making our own goats milk soap and began switching out everything we could for more natural safer products. After giving soap for Christmas presents that first year people were asking us to sell them more. In the beginning we really were more focused on making products for us, but we saw a need. Providing safe, natural, wholesome products to people has become a mission to us. Over 10 years later we are still in awe at how excited and happy people get when they use our products. Even the products I never thought we would sell, I just didn’t think they would have a market. I still remember being asked in 2015 if I could make a laundry soap, my reply was we made one but had never marketed it. She said I’ll buy it!!! Our laundry butter (soap) has become one of our best sellers.
So in 2018 providing safe, natural, healthy body & skincare is not a job, it’s not a hobby. It is a passion, a mission, and a ministry.
